I am a passionate student studying Environmental science and policy at the University of South Florida. I will be graduating in Fall 2022. Throughout my academic career, I have been a research assistant with the American Shark Conservancy since May 2019. At ASC, I participate in post-release mortality research of S. mokarran in a recreational fishery to advise legislation on fishing gear.I am comfortable handling large animals, taking samples, and recording data. I have also led community outreach events for adults and children. I have gained other similar field work experience with Saving the Blue, Havenworth Coastal Conservation, and Florida State University's Coastal Marine Lab (FSUCML).Prior to attending university, I gained animal husbandry experience at Busch Wildlife Sanctuary in Jupiter, Fl. From 2015-2018 I handled animals, maintained exhibits, assisted guests, prepared diets and medications, and assisted where needed in the animal hospital.I aspire to combine my passion for marine science, communication, and research by working as an aquarist. Additionally, I am interested in pursing a graduate degree. Throughout the multitude of experience I have received, I have found that I am drawn to spatial and behavioral ecology; specifically, habitat preference and use, philopatry, and acoustic telemetry to establish and better understand essential fish habitats. I would like to pursue a graduate degree studying habitat preference and philopatry of elasmobranchs in nursery and estuary habitats. I am drawn to the smalltooth sawfish and bull shark.
