The global collections include antiquities, art of all periods, history, minerals, natural history, and a living collection in the Aquarium of fish, amphibeans, reptiles and insects, plus theatre and Little Cinema program of foreign and independent films. Founded by Zenas Crane as a window on the world for residents and visitors to the Berkshires of western Massachusetts. Includes semi-permanent and special exhibitions; also developed traveling exhibitions for rent to other venues.Created vision and plan for major $10M capital campaign project (on schedule, within budget) to provide the first museum quality HVAC system in a 1903 museum building; improved visitor services, education space and functionality of building with little impact to historic architecture; created the award winning Feigenbaum Hall of Innovation focusing upon interdisciplinary innovations that developed out of the Berkshires and have provided a global impact. Responsible for a $7M acquistion fund through deaccessioning, following AAM guidelines; acquired important works of great significance for the permanent collection and commissioned Tom Patti for a major installation, while overseeing the first electronic catalog of the collections.
