Campus Director

Shanghai, China

Leading the Way in Asian Hospitality: My Time at Les Roches Jin JiangDuring my tenure with Les Roches, an international leader in hospitality management education, I had the privilege of managing the vibrant Les Roches Jin Jiang (LRJJ) campus in Shanghai, China. Established as a 50-50 joint venture with Jin Jiang hotels, the largest hotel company in China, LRJJ offered the best of both worlds. Les Roches, renowned for its educational expertise, combined forces with Jin Jiang's vast industry knowledge to create a world-class learning experience. As Campus Director, I wore many hats, overseeing all aspects of the college's operations. From academics and finance to human resources and marketing, my role was to ensure every facet of the institution ran smoothly and efficiently. My leadership philosophy revolved around transforming students into confident and competent hospitality professionals. By fostering a well-structured learning environment that balanced theory with practical application, we encouraged students to take ownership of their education and engage in as many activities as possible. Our efforts were recognized in 2016 when LRJJ was awarded the prestigious title of "Advanced Sino-Foreign Educational Institution" in China. This accolade was a testament to the high quality of our academic programs and the dedication of our faculty and staff.LRJJ's reputation extended beyond the Chinese borders, earning it the top spot among international hospitality management schools in China for an international career (TNS, 2010/2013). These impressive accolades ultimately contributed to Les Roches' ascent to the top 5 hospitality management institutions worldwide in 2017 (QS, 2017).Looking back, I am incredibly proud of my time at Les Roches Jin Jiang. Being part of a team that not only turned the college around financially but also built an outstanding reputation in Asia Pacific through teamwork and passion was a truly fulfilling experience.

Academic Dean

Shanghai, China

Prior to my promotion to Campus Director (Sep 13), I served as the Academic Dean, a role I maintained in a dual capacity for some time (Sep 13 to Apr 15) to ensure a smooth transition and find the ideal successor. In this position, my focus was on elevating both faculty and student experiences. I upheld the highest educational standards, spearheaded the integration of educational technologies, and fostered professional development opportunities for our dedicated faculty.Beyond academics, I oversaw a vast array of campus operations, including activities, registration, document management, career development, industry placements, and even the library. Building a cohesive and efficient system across these diverse functions was crucial to creating a seamless experience for our students.Together with the college leadership and the Director of Academic Affairs in Switzerland, we embarked on a transformative journey. Through close collaboration, we successfully navigated the highly competitive education landscape by:-Strengthening academic quality assurance: Rigorous standards were implemented and meticulously monitored, ensuring our students received a world-class education. -By balancing resources effectively, we delivered exceptional value to both the college and its students, maximizing the return on investment for everyone involved.-Partnership building was another cornerstone of our success. We cultivated valuable relationships with hospitality businesses, parents, charitable organizations, and even government agencies. This network not only bolstered our fundraising efforts but also provided students with invaluable real-world connections and internship opportunities.Underpinning every decision was our commitment to the college's mission and values. Our strategic plan aligned educational activities with the strong practical demands of Les Roches Worldwide, preparing our graduates for immediate impact in the global hospitality industry.

Program Manager

Valais, Switzerland

My role as Program Manager for Les Roches in Switzerland wasn't just about ticking boxes – it was about igniting potential and sculpting young minds into future hospitality leaders. Here is how I led the charge:-Guiding by Example: From program committees to team meetings, I fostered a vibrant culture of collaboration and critical thinking, setting the stage for academic rigor.-Metrics with Meaning: Monitoring student progress and grade distribution wasn't just about numbers; it was about celebrating individual triumphs and ensuring quality.-Empowering Educators: By actively monitoring teaching effectiveness and providing targeted feedback, I helped faculty become mentors and inspire students.-Standards with Stories: I didn't just enforce discipline; I communicated the "why" behind each requirement, connecting them to students' personal and professional goals. In addition, we build a Supportive Ecosystem by:-Smoothing the Curve: Orchestrating a comprehensive induction and tutorial program eased the transition for new students, ensuring they felt welcome and empowered.-Data-Driven Decision Making: Through strategic annual reports and action plans presented to the academic committee, I guided continuous improvement and growth.-Sharing the Knowledge: My own teaching in organizational behavior and introduction to hospitality equipped students with the industry's fundamentals and empowered them to navigate its complexities. My greatest highlight? Witnessing the metamorphosis of young adults into confident, professional hoteliers. By applying the school's standards with empathy and purpose, I helped them understand the "why" behind each requirement, igniting their intrinsic motivation and fostering a sense of ownership in their own success.

Hospitality Business Student And Tutor

Several Hotels And Catering Companies

Michigan, United States & Switzerland

My journey into hospitality began in the US, where I immersed myself in academic studies while simultaneously carving my own path in the industry. Juggling part-time roles was no easy feat – from navigating the welcoming chaos of hotel reception at Quality Inn and NADA to keeping up with the adrenaline rush of catering events with John Farris Catering and Aramark, each day brought a new challenge. But these experiences not only honed my hospitality skills, but also unveiled hidden talents like menu translation, as showcased in Switzerland at Radisson SAS. And to top it off, I found joy in sharing my knowledge by tutoring German to American students. This dynamic journey taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, resourcefulness, and the art of juggling diverse responsibilities – skills that now fuel my passion for a successful career in hospitality education.
