Project Manager Wren Pocketqub Satellite

Kreisfreie Stadt Aachen Und Umgebung, Deutschland

My first access to satellite communications and spacecraft operations began with the WREN space program. The WREN mission outfitted the very first 1p-Pocketqube satellite that made it into space. I became the project manager of this space mission, in which I also was involved as a flight controller during operations. The fascination for space flight control rooms has never left me ever-since and amplified my childhood dreams about space. The WREN Orbiter mission has been successfully injected into orbit on the 21. November 2013 at 08:21 UTC abord a DNEPR-1 rocket from Dombarowski Cosmodrome Jasny, Orenburg Russia. The WREN mission has been performed for 5 months with great success and has finally been completed in April 2014.In a nutshell, my work consisted among others in the following tasks:- Responsible for the registration (IARU, BNetzA)- Execution, monitoring, and documentation of acceptance tests data package and the space debris mitigation- Supervision of the satellite integration into satellite UNISAT-5- Development of the TT&C software- Mission Operations

Software Developer Labview (Student Research Assistant)

Department Of Process-Control Fh Aachen University

Aachen

The establishment of a LabVIEW application lab has been my first involvement in a major project. I was involved from the beginning, in the conceptual planning of the test benches and the network environment, in the setup of the test benches, including developing their respective software, up to the execution of the functionality tests. Everything had to be done under time pressure so that the lab was available for the students on time the following semester. I wrote exclusively on my own, the software controls of the whole laboratory equipment. The lab was designed to connect all devices to their LabVIEW applications via RS232-com-server, TCP, or OPC-DA connection. Interesting was that most of the devices were not networking-capable. For that purpose, I designed special servers, located in the devices' vicinity, which allowed me to connect the control application designed as a client running on a computer somewhere in the lab's network. So the user or student could log onto the experiment from his school desk and operate it remotely. In 2004, this was already a small sensation in the department of process automation at the FH Aachen! After setting up this lab, I had the pleasure of co-supervising the seminar. Students are taught hands-on how to acquire data from balances, pH, and conductivity meters in the lab and pilot plant. The students then learn about and configure data acquisition cards and Fieldbus. In simple preliminary experiments, voltages and currents are measured, analog signals are output, and relays are switched. The next step is to measure and control variables such as temperature, pressure, and conductivity. In the video just below, this application laboratory is shown during a class that I supervised together with Prof. Kotter
