The aim was to understand the Kondo resonance of a microwave photon, to contribute to ongoing research about the same. To this end, I studied a variety of topics including the quantization of the transmission line, quantum dots and their electrostatic energy when connected in series, stability diagrams for two quantum dots when connected in series, Josephson junctions and superconducting charge qubits, the input-output analysis of a double-quantum-dot weakly coupled to transmission lines (with a spin-boson Hamiltonian), the Jaynes Cummings model, and transmission lines coupled to a cavity.

This was a mathematical physics research internship. I learnt about self adjoint extensions to operators from the book on functional analysis by Reed and Simon. I then read a review on the global theory of quantum boundary conditions by Asorey et al, and a paper by Falomir, Gamboa Saravi, et al on finding the determinant of the Dirac operator on a disk, with Atiyah-Patodi-Singer boundary conditions, and presented the same.

A fellow research intern and I collected data to build up the transmittance spectra of ferrofluids of different concentrations, using a first-of-its-kind in-situ technique of studying ferrofluid dynamics under magnetic fields, developed by IGCAR. We also wrote a Matlab program to model the diffraction pattern of light passing through the ferrofluid, and compared the experimentally obtained pattern with the simulated one, to find a reasonable qualitative match.

This was an experimental physics internship, in which I did multiple experiments, the most interesting of which involved training fruit flies (drosophila melanogaster) through electric shocks, to get repelled by a particular smell, and examining how new memory formation impacts their lifespan among other things.Other experiments I did involved a numerical analysis of population systems when various growth parameters are tweaked, working with a Michelson interferometer and a torsional pendulum.
