PHF provides financial support to development initiatives in India and the UK. We have a diverse portfolio comprising work in the areas of health, livelihoods, education, local self governance, disability and human and institutional capacity enhancement. I head a team that assesses, facilitates and supports non governmental organizations working on such issuesI have led the development of the India Strategy for the Foundation. Am now leading the evolution of a grant making mechanism to ensure a sound program for the four extremely vulnerable communities that the PHF aims to focus its work on.

CSE is currently being set up as an organization that will address issues of environment, development and livelihoods in fragile ecosystems. The key interest presently is in addressing the issues arising from the extension of the Rajasthan Canal and asking the question whether the canal should promote agriculture or pastoralism in the extension zone.

Aajeevika Bureau in an organization working on innovative ideas and solutions to address the concerns of the growing internal migrant population and labour in the unorganized sector in India. Aajeevika Bureau has been able to place the issue of migration firmly on the development map in India and is leading policy formulation and practice on the issue.

GSK is an initiative on education with communities. It was set up to question, challenge and alter the status quo in the government education space. We challenge it by bringing communities to question the quality of education services of the government and will change it by making the government schools accountable first to the communities who are the main stakeholders of education. To do this we demonstrate our approach to quality education through schools we have set up and manage with the community, and by helping government schools evolve through a multi dimensional approach involving work with the children, the teachers, the school management committees and the community. We currently reach out to over 9,000 children, over 400 teachers and to over 60 village communities and around 65 schools in the area. Environment, conservation, education, gender, governance and development are all interlinked in the role we play. The Uday schools run by Gramin Shiksha Kendra are today in the forefront of demonstrating what quality education can mean and are ensuring that the education ecosystem which includes the teachers, school administrators, parents, communities and especially the children, begins to become more resourceful and responsive to the demands the community has for educating their children.

Handling the Health portfolio for central and southern India. As part of this job, I brought together for the first time issues related to livelihood enhancement and health. Though many projects have been successfully improving peoples livelihoods, only a very few are actually looking at reducing health related expenditures simultaneously. Only when these initiative are combined can we be sure that people living in poverty can successfully propel themselves out of it.

ARTH is an organization working on community based solutions for public health concerns.

I had set up ARAVALI for the development sector of Rajasthan in 1997 as an organization that would facilitate a better relationship between the government and non government organizations.At my second stint I set up an intense but effective plan for NGOs to become more professional, and for their initiatives and proposals to become more robust, backed up by research and data and with clearer outcomes and better planning. I built the work of ARAVALI on the premise that greater professionalism in NGOs and more sensitive government policy on partnerships is critical for effective collaboration.

I initiated the Community Development Program for the Aga Khan Foundation's work in Afghanistan and set up the team and systems for the work. I coordinated the program in Baghlan to move it from a relief and rehabilitation program to one which focused on development and empowerment. I also provided program development and implementation support to other regional programs in Badakshan and Bamyan. My major achievement was to integrate development programming so that initiatives in health, education, infrastructure development and livelihoods could work together and create a stronger foundation for a people emerging from conflict. A very satisfying outcome of my work was the development of the Community Development team particularly the women's team, which continues to remain one of the biggest assets to the AKF's program in Afghanistan.

As a 'Future Leader' was invited to the United States for an introduction and connection to civil society initiatives in the US. Travelled across the United States meeting and sharing with activists, social entrepreneurs, development workers in the US.

ARAVALI was conceived as an organization that would facilitate a better working relationship between the government and non government organizations. I set it up for the Government of Rajasthan. I successfully demonstrated how collaboration can become an effective tool for development initiatives to become sustainable, accommodate all concerns and set us a robust mechanism for poverty reduction. I was able to successfully develop and sustain partnerships and bring about interagency collaboration for effective utilization of resources.

Coordinated a programmme to explore newer more robust means of management of protected areas, in this case the Ranthambhor National Park, by including communities as important stakeholders. The basic premise was that "communities living in and around protected areas should be the beneficiaries of conservation not victims"

Was responsible for sales and market development in Rajasthan and then new product development in New Delhi
