Founded, built, and scaled one of the nation's biggest debate and public speaking companies. Athens Debate teaches public speaking and debate to elementary, middle, and high school students.

Responsible for helping the nation's 10th largest city leverage new technology to solve its most pressing problems, piloting and scaling innovative new technology projects, facilitating and convening diverse technology stakeholders to advance technology for social good policies, building public-private partnerships, and managing several high-profile technology projects simultaneously. Portfolio included multiple simultaneous projects: autonomous vehicles, digital inclusion (drafted the City's first digital inclusion report), drones, smart cities technologies, delivery robots, Internet of Things, crowdsourcing technology solutions to government challenges (created a pathway to have residents form startup teams to develop a drone to clean up graffiti), and met with technology companies on a daily basis. Small-team that required the ability to execute in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.

Provided policy and project management support to President Janet Napolitano’s Executive Office. Coordinated daily with top executive members of the President's Cabinet and senior officers of the University. Managed the President’s Major Initiatives process. Assisted in the preparation of issue briefs, position papers, wrote daily cover memos for the President’s binder, and occasional policy memos for the Executive Office. Managed the President's daily briefings.

Created recommendations for specific regulatory and enforcement changes to the existing legal structure (Prop 215) that would better regulate marijuana, particularly in regards to environmental protection; proposed regulatory frameworks across the entire value chain, from production through sale, for both medicinal and recreational use; proposed regulatory frameworks to maximize federal government support and non-interference. Wrote a fifty page report on findings, analyzed all existing statutes, and created a matrix detailing existing case law related to marijuana; Led meetings - with no supervision - with the heads of various CA agencies (e.g. Department of Fish and Wildlife; Alcohol and Beverage Control; Environmental Protection Agency; and individual members of the CA Water Board) and other senior executives.

Constructed a policy framework to assess alternative accountability in non-traditional schools. Researched alternative accountability formulas and models in Portland Public Schools, Chicago Public Schools, Denver Public Schools, and throughout California. Created twenty recommendations on variables that need to be addressed in an alternative accountability formula and offered analysis on the political, policy, implementation, and financial feasibility of those recommendations.

Authored the legislative strategy section of a five-year state plan for Maine and Missouri, analyzed school board regulations for multiple states, and assisted in building a legislative scorecard database. Provided research on the following states: California, Ohio, Missouri, Maine, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. StudentsFirst is an education reform organization founded by former DC Chancellor of Public Schools, Michelle Rhee.

Conducted research with the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) to develop new protocols for managing school portfolio development that align with OUSD’s full-service community schools vision. Analyzed citywide indicators, district projections, and attendance data for a proposal that convinced OUSD's Superintendent to administer a district-wide poll to construct a more informed data framework around each student to empower Principals in navigating school choice issues and make strategic decisions about school program portfolios. Met twice with OUSD’s Superintendent.

Responsible for advising a councilmember on political and legislative issues, frequent speechwriting (weekly council comments, 9 big event speeches, 1 twenty-minute address), policy analysis, representing the member at community and commission meetings. Wrote over 200 policy memos. Policy portfolio included: budget, education, housing, water, labor, economic development, redevelopment agency, BART, SJC airport, medical marijuana regulation, tobacco, and environmental issues. Co-authored the bills that were signed into law for San Jose's comprehensive medical marijuana ordinance and its position on Arizona's SB 1070 immigration law.

Assisted in political research and congressional correspondence, attended and coordinated meetings with Senior Staff from congressional affairs offices on behalf of staff, contributed to policy memos, and prepared policy outreach for the Associate Director of Legislative Affairs. Issues portfolio included: climate change adaptation, natural gas extraction, smart grid technology, Asian carp mitigation, and the Senate Energy Bill process of 2010. Note: At the time, both the Deputy and Special Assistant were transitioning out of the office so my responsibilities reflected that of a full-fledged staff member.

Worked on energy, environmental and international narcotics issues. Responsible for attending briefings and hearings on behalf of staff, writing policy memos, conducting legislative research, drafting constituent letters, assisting with talking points and floor statements (once for her floor statement on international narcotics issues). Co-authored policy memos to Senator Feinstein on: NIE funding, NOAA Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs), Energy Security and Infrastructure Development, HR 2x454 (Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009), and Executive Order 13423 regarding environmentally sustainable technologies in the federal government.
