As the Executive Director of Vote Solar, I lead with optimism and expertise––in addition to endless dad jokes. By empowering my team, I ensure Vote Solar holds fast to its unique position in the clean energy landscape while pursuing bold new initiatives. Our dedication to a brighter tomorrow is what drives us to advocate for a 100% clean energy future through a solutions-driven, people-first approach. My experience in both national and international work has allowed me to develop a well-rounded perspective on the value of solar energy, particularly in combination with efficiency and electrification. Now, after decades of serving as an expert in the regulatory landscape of the solar industry, I will use my expertise to guide Vote Solar down our strategic roadmap. 30 years is a long time to do anything, but I have enjoyed every minute of my time in clean energy and international development. Addressing climate change and advocating for a clean energy future is an existential struggle, but it is also at the intersection of so many issues - economic and environmental justice, equity, racism, state violence and even basic health - such that we can never be complacent that solar and other renewables will eventually win simply because they are the superior technology. The truth is we have to make sure that our future energy system does not continue the legacy of injustice that is the hallmark of the fossil energy that we rely on today. That means making solar and wind the first choice, yes, but also an affordable, widely shared and accessible option that gives us all the means to move forward sustainably into a post-carbon world.
