    SW 505: Engaging Social Justice, Diversity, and Oppression in Social WorkThis required essentials course is designed to increase students’ awareness, knowledge, and critical skills related to diversity, human rights, social and economic justice. The course focuses heavily on engaging diversity and differences in social work practice and advancing human rights and social and economic justice, through understanding power and oppression across micro, meso, and macro levels. Students will contribute to real-time solutions to community-defined issues and challenges in population health. I have also facilitated Relationship Remix sessions, which is a nationally recognized collaborative program that helps students understand key components around consent, communication, decision-making, sexual health and healthy relationships.Special Projects:1.     I served as an intern for the Grenada Planned Parenthood Association (GPPA).Founded in 1964, the Grenada Planned Parenthood Association (GPPA) aims to provide knowledge and means to make informed family planning decisions through comprehensive reproductive health services and counseling. GPPA is responsible for two full-time clinics in St. George's and St. Andrew's, which provide pap smears, pregnancy tests and contraceptives. The organization also provides training for nurses, national distribution of family planning information and education through media activity and community meetings and youth health clinics. The youth health clinics provide sexual and reproductive health advice, and skills and remedial academic training for teenagers who have dropped out of the formal education system. These youth clinics aim to reduce the high teenage pregnancy rates in Grenada. This summer I will assist with implementing the first National Sexual and Reproductive Health Survey and by extension, improve the human rights of women through learning more about their reproductive health needs. In my role, I have gained institutional review board approval, transcribed the paper survey into Qualtrics and will be responsible for recruitment and training of volunteers to pilot test the survey.

I have worked on three major tasks: Parent Engagement, Leadership Council and the Grow Detroit's Young Talent (GDYT) programming in July and August 2016.
