My main areas of research are Computational Neuroscience and Bio-signal Processing. I work with neuroimaging (MRI, fMRI, EEG) data and bio-signals (EMG, ECG, sensors) from human brain using algorithms/concepts from multiple domains such as AI, Mathematics, Information Theory, and Topology. Currently, I am a Research Assistant Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Earlier, I worked as a Senior Researcher in the Cognitive and Neural Engineering research group at the Faculty of Information Technology, Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic. I was the Founding Director of ‘Biosignal Processing and Computational Neuroscience (BiCoNeS)’ lab at the Institute of Space Technology in Pakistan where I worked as an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering from seven years. I was also an Adjunct Research Associate with the Turner Institute of Brain and Mental Health at the Monash University, Australia. I am also co-founder and CEO of Techotils Private Limited, which is a newly formed startup focused to lead in community targeted AI-based products and services.I did my PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in USA after securing a Fulbright Scholarship award. During my PhD, I studied dynamics of our brain’s changing thought process. I did my postdoc in ‘Computational Connectomics’ from Rotman Research Institute at the Baycrest Health Sciences, Canada after securing Schlumberger Faculty for the Future Fellowship award. In Postdoc, my research focus was to understand the relationship between brain and behavior using EEG data collected during music listening. Currently, I am working with brain tumor, Stroke, and naturalistic stimuli (movie watching, music) datasets. In my current position, I am also involved in projects to use electrical stimulation (tDCS, tACS, TIS) for stroke rehabilitation. I also work on projects for design and development of low-cost, portable, and easy-to-use hardware- and software-based devices/systems utilizing EEG, EMG, and sensors’ data for monitoring and rehab of patients using AI and IoT. I have more than twenty years’ experience of teaching at vocational, undergrad, and grad levels and have been awarded two best teacher awards. I have successfully supervised one PhD, five masters’, and 40+ undergrad theses during my work as a teacher and researcher.
