Before working at Gwent Police, I have had a number of years of experience working in retail which increased my interest in community engagement. I then worked in a domestic abuse refuge, covering Powys, temporarily managing two refuges. This is where my interest developed into criminal justice, helping the victims through legal proceedings and safeguarding of their children.In my current role as a community cohesion officer for Gwent Police, I have developed a number of skills, including knowledge around engaging with diverse communities and development of relationships within communities to build trust and confidence within policing. It is a diverse role and involves policy advise, feeding community feedback into operational policing and external but also internal engagement with staff networks and other partners. I have always loved working in the community and in particular, working with young people. I have also enjoyed working externally and internally with LGBT communities as I am the LGBT point of contact for the Gwent branch of All Wales LGBT staff network.
