Students are each assigned a country to represent in a real United Nations committee and must work with a partner to research that country's position on an assigned global issue (i.e. protecting women's rights, expanding education opportunities, etc.) and then argue their position at a conference while working together with other countries to solve the problem at hand by writing resolution papers. The simulation lasts six months and is entirely in English. I selected 10 students from the bilingual program to represent our school at the Madrid conference, and they were selected to go to the second, more selective conference because of their high performance. One of our countries was awarded the distinction of best delegation in their committee.Engaged with the community by leading monthly language exchanges, teaching private English classes, and participating in hiking and outdoors clubs.
