Receive, store, and issue sales floor merchandise. Stock shelves, racks, cases, bins, and tables with merchandise and arrange merchandise displays to attract customers. May periodically take physical count of stock or check and mark merchandise. Answer customers' questions about merchandise and advise customers on merchandise selection. Stamp, attach, or change price tags on merchandise, referring to price list. Stock shelves, racks, cases, bins, and tables with new or transferred merchandise. Itemize and total customer merchandise selection at checkout counter, using cash register, and accept cash or charge card for purchases. Receive, open, unpack and issue sales floor merchandise. Clean display cases, shelves, and aisles. Design and set up advertising signs and displays of merchandise on shelves, counters, or tables to attract customers and promote sales. Pack customer purchases in bags or cartons.

Confer with customers by telephone or in person to provide information about products or services, take or enter orders, cancel accounts, or obtain details of complaints. Check to ensure that appropriate changes were made to resolve customers' problems. Keep records of customer interactions or transactions, recording details of inquiries, complaints, or comments, as well as actions taken. Resolve customers' service or billing complaints by performing activities such as exchanging merchandise, refunding money, or adjusting bills. Complete contract forms, prepare change of address records, or issue service discontinuance orders, using computers. Refer unresolved customer grievances to designated departments for further investigation. Determine charges for services requested, collect deposits or payments, or arrange for billing. Solicit sales of new or additional services or products. Recommend improvements in products, packaging, shipping, service, or billing methods and procedures to prevent future problems.
