While working at Advanced Materials and Medical Instruments (AMMI) Lab, my key functions included, R&D activities related to surgical robotics, specifically Minimally Invasive Surgical (MIS) navigational instruments, including design and development of a novel 3-D steerable active surgical catheter.It was I who led prototyping efforts for new product development life cycle: design, manufacture, testing, and validation.Key Accomplishments:• Spearheaded the material characterization of smart materials; SMA micro-actuators for self-sensing feedback control in active surgical catheters trajectory planning, and path following.• Authored and executed feedback loop control algorithms in MATLAB for smart actuation of SMAs, and Piezoelectric micro-actuators.• Completed the micro-controller programming for vision-based (ultrasound imaging) control of surgical needle in phantom.
