Job Description- Set-up of booth at event, Laloolalang (@Laloolalang on Instagram)- Interact and promote the brand to the public - Give out catalogues and assist patrons in viewing Laiian's furnitures- Photo-taking for Laiian's Social Media (@Laiian.co on Instagram)Started by Safi Arinah, Laiian is an Interior Design & Furniture company based in Singapore. I was given the chance to become a salesperson and promoter for Laiian at their first pop-up booth at Lasalle College School of the Art's Laloolang x Me-You Market. The experience allowed me to work on my interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with the public and promoting Laiian. The job helped hone my confidence, active listening skills, optimism and patience when dealing with difficult patrons. At the end of 2 days, me and my team managed to give out about 600 catalogues and have gained 400 new followers on Laiian's Instagram page thanks to the company's exposure and publicity during the event.

Internship at The Artground (March 2023-August 2023)The Artground is supported and funded by The Ground Co Limited, a recognised art charity. The Artground aims to give kids from birth to age 9 meaningful arts experiences in a variety of art subjects in a welcoming environment that embraces kids from all communities. For my internship, I am tasked in 3 key areas; Operations, Programmes and Art Space. During the first 2 weeks, I had to assist in daily operational duties, assist artists during arts-related programmes and manage the arts learning journey. I assist in daily operational duties which includes opening up the centre, ticketing, merchandise sales, basic cleaning and sanitisation process. During entry and registration, I will also have to answer any queries the public may have with regards to The Artground’s operations. Assisting artists during arts-related programmes for both weekend programmes and arts learning journey has also been a significant aspect of my internship as these public and preschool programmes happen everyday. At the same time, I would manage teachers and groups of students under these preschools. Then, the arts space underwent a changeover where I assisted the artists in designing, conceptualising, fabricating and crafting of the upcoming newly-themed space for children. Key Achievements and ContributionsIncrease sales of seasonal programmes at The Artground. Aside from normal programmes like arts and crafts, performances and story telling sessions, we will have special programmes that are seasonal such as Beam and House which comes by every few months. Hence, I would have to promote them by distributing flyers and enticing parents into joining the show. Because of my publicity and marketing, tickets for Beam and House sold out(100 tickets a day for 3 weekends and 60 tickets for 2 weekends respectively. I had also taken photographs of the show which then were posted to Artground’s Social Media page as shown.

Job Description- Customer related functions (i.e. Answering enquiries and attending to patron’s request).- Rotation of duties: Cashiering at Box Office, F&B preparation, Inventory check, Ushering, General housekeeping.Part-timing at shaw has equipped me with valuable skills applicable in the Arts industry such as teamwork, adaptibility and problem solving skills. Being in a food and services industry, there are always unanticipated problems, either with the ticketing system or customer. Through the past year of working at shaw, I have adapted to the fast paced environment during peak hours and facing difficult customers. I have also sharpened my interpersonal skills and teamwork while working in a team that consists of different roles (eg.cashiering, F&B preparation, ushering etc.). Working with people from different backgrounds to ensure a smooth operation can be difficult at times, however, I have used my interpersonal skills such as effective communication, conflict management and empathy to work well together in my team. These skills are also applicable and valuable in the Arts Industry as well as being a programmes coordinator.
