I have been working as an executive recruiter since 1999. Rather than celebrate my former employers (now competitors on my LinkedIn page), I will refer to some general descriptions.… 1999-2002 recruited CFOs for pre-IPO VC backed companies. I worked on 50+ searches for Sand Hill VC firms such as Redpoint Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, NEA, USVP and TCV. … 2002-2006 recruited C-level to VP-level. I worked on 150+ searches with a national based portfolio of clients. I would estimate that 75% of the clients fit into an emerging growth / start-up category and the remainder included large CPG companies, Banks, and Pharmaceutical manufacturers.

I founded an internet company with an ambitious plan to change the way college students landed at their first job. We took venture capital, and launched the company in 1996. Maybe we will try it again soon. It’s still a good idea. THE IDEA: Instead of looking for a job (on the boards), you would search for the “right” company for you. After taking an engaging survey (career ambitions, locations, industry, compensation) you would see a personalized list of companies that were suited for you to pursue a career with. This allowed passive job seekers (specifically, college students prior to their senior year) to connect with potential employers outside of the scope of a job they were hiring for. The employers' incentive was that employees would identify with them, rather than a job, and the approach would reduce turnover. At the time (1996-99) first year college graduate turnover was over 15%.
