During a summer I worked with a development project at the green chemical company Sekab's innovation department, together with an engineering student in industrial economy. I was responsible for the chemical- and technical evaluation of a proposed process for production of a number of new biobased chemicals. Based on information gathering, contact with key persons at the company within process chemistry and economy, and mass- and energy balances, I simulated the production in Excel and CHEMCAD to estimate material- and energy flows and equipment dimensions for subsequent economic evaluation of the project (OpEx, CapEx). The work was delivered as a technoeconomic analysis in the form of a report as well as an oral presentation open for the whole company.

I worked extra during my engineering studies as a laboratory technician at the temporary PCR-test analysis lab at the Karolinska Institute that operated during the Covid-19-pandemic. The work involved inactivation and registration of incoming Covid-19-tests (BSL-2), followed by preparation and management of them throughout subsequent processing steps in a semi-automated pipe-line. I quickly learnt to manage the different stages of the full process to be able to cover in functions based on need and was responsible for parts of my shifts for operating the robots used in different tasks downstream. The work environment was highly dynamic and international; I worked in teams together with PhDs, postdocs, senior researchers, as well as bachelor- and master students. The employment ended as the spread of infection slowed down and the demand for PCR-tests dropped.
