Advise, support, manage two service-focused programs, Full Circle Food Pantry and Razorback Food Recovery. I work alongside the leadership teams to support them as humans, students, and leaders. I facilitate critical thinking and effective communication skill development, personal and professional skill development, event planning, budget management, and program assessment through one-on-one and group meetings. Leaders are appointed to one-year terms, so I work alongside them from recruitment to onboarding to successful year of service to exit. Awarded 2021 National Association of Student Personnel Administrators regional Rising Star New Professional award for positive contributions to the field of Student Development and Community Building. Oversee annual budgets totaling approximately $200,000 with multiple funding streams including private donations, grants, and fees associated with enrolled credit hours. I have been awarded approximately $150,000 in grants to date. I advised two major programs – Freshman Leadership Forum, a competitive first-year student leadership development program, and Safe Ride, a cross-departmental student safety service. Reinvigorated the dormant, cross-departmental Safe Ride advisory committee, oversaw Safe Ride’s $200,000 budget, plan awareness & recruitment events, coordinated meetings with multiple stakeholders, and promote & advocate for success and growth. Facilitated leadership development for a group of 40 – 50 diverse, first year students in a period of major transition. Taught interpersonal conflict management, create and facilitate trainings on a variety of aspects of academic, professional, personal success – always focused on developing the whole person. Many of these students went on to hold major leadership positions, get into graduate/medical school, and achieve their goals.

Created this internship through identifying a need for further organization and stronger foundation for the LGBTQ+ mentoring program within the Center for Multicultural and Diversity Education. I offered to work on the logistics and planning for the program’s second full year of operation over the summer months in exchange for mentorship and internship class credit for my master’s degree. Unexpectedly, I also had the opportunity to step in and teach a wellness course for first-year students in a program’s whose mission is to prepare and support first-generation, low-income students into their first year of college. Analyzed exit surveys to improve program impact and participant satisfaction for both mentors and mentees. Revised LGBTQ+ Mentor Handbook to include relevant resources, updated language, and increased readability and relevancy to the position. Created a more robust onboarding experience to set mentors up for success. Created a monthly newsletter through MailChimp to highlight events (to increase engagement), wellness initiatives and resources (to increase overall mentor/mentee success inside and outside the program), and create community through participant spotlights.

In addition to basic phone-based fundraising duties, I also created caller development initiatives to increase caller success and retention in a high-turnover environment through building community within the center and developing relevant/transferrable skills. Communicated with university alumni to accurately update contact information and quickly build positive relationships through strengthened connections with each unique alumni through phone calls. Led a team that successfully raised $393,000 over 9 months for the University of Arkansas with a 40% participation rate.

I participated 3 summers in a row and was awarded Outstanding New Mentor my first summer in 2013. Facilitated honest group discussions surrounding the transition to college life, importance of diversity, inclusion, & belonging, campus culture and traditions, and resources available to encourage success. I was able to maintain an open, welcoming environment to encourage and foster genuine connections among diverse groups. Maintained connections and mentoring relationship with students throughout their first year and beyond to provide support as needed. It reminds me of onboarding students into the University!
