About Sage Emily Lachman, M.A.
I am a Clinical Psychology Ph.D. candidate at Duke training under Dr. Nancy Zucker in the Duke Center for Eating Disorders. Before coming to Duke, I was a Senior Research Specialist for the Department of Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine at Children's Hospital Los Angeles under the supervision of Drs. Jeffrey Gold and Lara Nelson. I coordinated research studies conducted in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit investigating delirium & associated cognitive dysfunction, medical trauma/PTSD, anxiety, & pain. Additionally, I worked with patients to assess the efficacy of VR in reducing children’s pain & anxiety during painful procedures (i.e., phlebotomy, IV placement, cast removal). I graduated from Pitzer College with a BA in Psychology (Hons.), and a minor in Sociology. My honors thesis evaluated the efficacy of expressive writing on resilience, depression & posttraumatic growth. I was the lab manager for Pitzer's Behavioral Health Lab under the supervision of Dr. KaMala Thomas. My research interests include developing, evaluating, & implementing integrative interventions designed for pain/symptom management, sexual health, and improving psychological & physiological health outcomes & quality of life in adolescent & young adult survivors and patients with cancer. I hope to study implementation & efficacy of treatments in low-resource settings in order to improve access to, & acceptance & feasibility of, mental health services in these communities.
Listed skills include Clinical Psychology, Clinical Research, Spss Statistics, Crisis Intervention, and 16 others.
