Solar Decathlon Engineering Lead
For the 2021 Solar Decathlon Design Challenge, I led our engineering team. The team was 7 students big and included both graduate and undergraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds. Together we worked to design all of the engineered systems of our mixed-use multifamily building for the competition. The team was 7 students big and included both graduate and undergraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds. Together we worked to design all of the engineered systems of our mixed-use multifamily building for the competition. This included the water and plumbing, lighting and electrical, HVAC, solar and battery, smart control, building envelope. I worked a little bit on all aspects and delegated tasks to the rest of the team, but my primary technical focus was in solar, battery, grid integration, and HVAC. I designed our solar array and battery system from scratch and also proposed a plan for grid resilience at the fire prone site. This plan included selective load shedding with an advanced control system, Demand Response capabilities from appliances and HVAC, and westward facing PV for evening ramp up. Show less
