I taught PG362 International Organization Course Description:This course examines the growth of international organization in the nation-state system. The course begins with a theoretical exploration of the demand for, and the possibility of, international organization. The second section surveys the historical development of formal international organizations including the Concert of Europe, the League of Nations, and the United Nations. The third section assesses the processes of contemporary international organizations including the United Nations and the development of regional institutions in Europe, Eurasia, the Middle East, Latin America and Africa. In the fourth section we examine the procedures of international cooperation in key issue areas including: international economic organization; population and refugees, the environment and sustainable development; human rights; collective security and sanctions. In the final section, we will consider the prospects for international organization in the twenty-first century to include national support for the United Nations and the relationship between individuals, non- governmental organizations, technology, and international agenda-setting.Course Objectives:• Have a firm grasp on the historical context of modern international organizations.• Understand the role of international organizations in the international political system.• Be familiar with challenges faced by international organizations and states.• Develop analytical and research skills to assess the relevance of internationalorganizations.• Be able to work collaboratively with others.• Develop a “productive listening” habit where students are able to understand a differingpoint of view.• Recognize the importance and need of intersectionality in the context of studyinginternational organizations.

The course highlights the multiple processes through which law constitutes, regulates, and promotes change in social action, identity, and institutions, as well as how scholars come to understand those processes. This course is ideal for students in the humanities and the social sciences, as well as business, journalism, and the sciences who are interested in exploring various facets of the law. It is part of AU's Washington Semester Program.2) JLC-485/685 Analyzing Terrorist Attacks: The course examines major contemporary terrorist attacks worldwide, focusing on terrorism by non-state actors, mainly though not only by jihadist organizations. Knowledge and discussion about perpetrators and their organizational connections, diverse modus operandi, targets and target selection, victimization patterns, ultimate political goals, and societal consequences, aims at providing a better understanding of the evolving global threat of terrorism. This is a seminar course at AU's School of Public Affairs and is part of the Terrorism and Security Studies component.
