Our facilities range from garment construction spaces to complex workshops with heavy machinery. These workshops are equipped not only with machines for sewing, textile printing and weaving, but also with a broad collection of traditional hand tools for plastics, composites, timbers and metals, as well as a diverse range of additive and subtractive facilities, such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and CNC milling machines.

The equipment available to students at RMIT is state-of-the-art, giving them everything they need to produce prototypes and models beyond the resources of most professional fabricators. This array of tech is backed up by direct access to workshop staff who are individually skilled craftspeople and a resource in themselves.The Studio Technical Assistant ensures the uninterrupted availability of such resources in studios and workshops, whether through ensuring access to fully equipped studio environments or liaising with academic staff to ensure day to day needs are met. Archinauts was founded in 2013 to explore art and architecture in project based collaborations. The members of Archinauts shift and recalibrate to meet the needs of the project at hand with maximum flexibility. In 2014 we successfully pitched for the design and fabrication of a public artwork for the City of Maribyrnong. We look forward to further opportunities for collaboration.

Visualising Environments provides the necessary skills to visually communicate critical and analytical thinking for the identification and resolution of problems. The subject teaches diagrammatic and visual means to clarify complex issues. The subject offers a series of modules:• Computer-aided drafting (AutoCAD)• Computer 3D modelling (Rhinoceros)• Digital photography and image manipulation (Photoshop)• Digital presentation layouts (InDesign)• Digital drawing (Illustrator)• Watercolour• Life drawing• Model making• Professional presentations and conceptsThe subject teaches diagrammatic and visual means to clarify complex issues.
