I participated in building the ERP system for UPM's new Biofuels business area. Mainly my job consisted of planning and creating user roles and access rights for all ERP users, participating in creating reports for business users, taking part in ERP release and test planning, designing and testing the integration interfaces and the user portal and coordinating the work with different IT vendors.The project was nicely challenging and educational as the ERP system was new technology for me and as we were creating a completely new business at the same time. What I enjoyed the most was working in a multicultural environment and learning a lot about new technologies.

My work in UPM’s integration team consisted of participating in different projects, planning and creating new integrations for new applications, creating, maintaining and troubleshooting integrations, coordinating with different UPM IT and business personnel and also external vendors and contacts (i.e. banks), maintaining and upgrading UPM’s integration servers, participating in release planning, creating disaster recovery plans and testing them together with internal and external colleagues. My responsibilities were also to coordinate the work of the EAI and B2B vendors and to participate in root cause analysis with other responsible parties whenever something had gone wrong. I had the possibility to participate in UPM ICT Academy which was a course organized by Sofigate to give selected IT personnel a wide understanding of ICT management (https://www.itforbusiness.org/fi/). The course introduced us to IT strategy and governance, project and service management and to sourcing. In UPM IT I also studied for an ITIL Certificate.My time in the integration team taught me a lot about UPM’s different business areas and processes, gave me understanding of the vast amount of applications and integrations, and gave me an opportunity to work with big projects in a multicultural environment.

My deep dive into B2B integrations started from Liaison Technologies or Anilinker at the time. I had already worked with small and outdated flat file integrations, but working with various different businesses and integration processes in Liaison really taught me a lot. At Liaison my job was to participate in project as a technical resource, to plan B2B integrations, portals, e-invoicing and to implement them. I had the possibility to learn about several different business areas; healthcare, logistics, retail, electricity, finance, manufacturing...I also had the possibility to spend a couple of weeks in Atlanta, at Liaison Technologies headquarters as a work exchanger. Anilinker had merged with Liaison and the purpose of the exchange was to learn about Liaison’s work methods and to unify our processes of working with integrations. I enjoyed working at Liaison as I had the possibility to make tailored integrations for customers’ specific needs with various amounts of technologies. I also enjoyed the atmosphere of “doing together” and all the other benefits of a smaller company.
