I, Saima Bashir, am currently working as “Manger Research” at Population Council, Islamabad Pakistan. prior to joining Population Council, I was working as "Senior Research Demographer" at Pakistan Instituteof Development Economics (PIDE). I received my Ph.D in Sociology from Bowling Green State University, Ohio in 2017. I specialized in population dynamics. My main areas of research are but not limited to reproductive attitudes and behaviors, maternal and child health, and family demography with the main focus on gender. recently, I am looking at the inter linkages of population dynamics and climate change. One line of research examines unintended fertility, looking at trends over time as well as the antecedents and consequences of unplanned births.  In all my research, I pay close attention to variation by gender and socioeconomic status to better understand the couple’s or women’s decision making processes. Further, as a "Manger Research" at PIDE, I am responsible for carrying out evidence based independent research on demographic issues concerning Pakistan.Further, Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) hired me as a “National Consultant Demographer” to support workshop on Civil Registration Vital Statistics (CRVS) in Pakistan. My main responsibility was to support the conduct of two workshops on producing vital statistics from civil registration records: CRVS Data Analysis; Use in Decision Making. In particular, I prepare and delivered presentations, assist the main consultant in organizing appropriate training material, including subject briefs, case studies, group work exercises etc. for use during the workshops and acted as a facilitator during the workshops, with the support of the main consultant.During my PhD, I was also selected for Policy Communication Fellowship at Population Reference Bureau, Washington, DC. The main objective of the fellowship is to build participants’ skills to communicate data, research, and evidence to nontechnical audiences most importantly to draws policymakers’ attention.
