FAITH BORN NAKED traces how one can bare oneself as a husband, father, son and friend and not leave those dear and near guessing, as many men tend to do. The task is pressing for Canadian writer Sajan K who has journeyed across two faiths and two marriages at opposite ends of the globe. Along the way, he encounters what Robert Louis Stevenson called open-eyed faith, “built upon a knowledge of our life, of the tyranny of circumstance, and the frailty of human resolution”.Sajan parts the curtains on life experiences, including raw-skinned years when his father walked out of the family home, to explore how one’s faith and disbelief can be either blind or sighted. Open-eyed faith is inclusive and smiling, as it embraces the universe like a newborn. It is not weighed down by the cladding of “true” dogma.Such faith trusts its own bearings while allowing others their virtues. That is an important message in an age of rifts in public life and cynicism in pop culture – captured by American “queen” RuPaul’s one-liner that we are born naked and the rest is drag.
