Participated in a 3 month graduate development programme, working with a local company and taking lead on one of their projects. The project objective was to increase the extracted yield of a saleable wool grease, most of which was being lost to waste. - Responsibilities included collecting and then testing samples of effluent, whilst also looking at procedures that could be scaled up.- Methods that were explored were: centrifuging a mixture of the solid waste, a known volume of water and detergent, using mist extractors to remove grease globules from the effluent and - Worked in a small team, honing my communication and teamwork skills.- Participated in meetings with DEFRA, discussing new regulations and procedures that had to be taken into account when formulating a solution.- Presented my results and findings to the board of the company.- Wrote a detailed report outlining my findings and the different avenues explored.- After the conclusion of the placement, I was informed that my recommended solution was trialed at a large scale and was being considered for implementation at the plant.
