Energy efficiency and decarbonization (EE&D) are essential for sustainable development and export-led growth. EE&D helps reduce carbon footprint, promote self-sufficiency, and improve economic conditions. It is a cornerstone in the development of the national sustainable decarbonization program designed to help Pakistan save energy, reduce its carbon footprint, and improve the competitiveness of the exporting manufacturing sector, while also achieving climate change objectives.

“Pakistan – Decarbonizing Textile Manufacturing” NAMA Support Project (NSP) provides access to financing and technical assistance. The Financial Component of the program will establish a fund to provide loans to manufacturers for adopting EE and RE technologies at reduced markup rates. This will be achieved by adopting existing concessional refinancing mechanisms and partnering with local banking institutions. The market approach will be used to develop financial products, loan disbursement mechanisms, and capture carbon credits. The value will be exchanged along the chain, and savings and sales premiums will augment the business case for investing in cleaner production. The project will catalyze the development of private-sector financing for textile SMEs beyond the NSP duration.The Technical Component will support the adoption of regulations, and address enforcement and compliance issues through capacity development and policy interventions. The capacities of all relevant organizations including governments, banks, textile manufacturers, green technology equipment and service providers, and the banking sector will be built or strengthened.

I served as the Deputy Director of USAID Punjab Office. The position required an in-depth understanding of development challenges in Punjab. With the broader picture in mind and I provided strategic direction to the USAID programming in the Punjab and Pakistan. It also meant to design and develop, implement, and evaluate a broad range of development activities across economic growth, agriculture, health, and energy sectors.

Responsible for designing, developing and implementing USAID Pakistan Private Sector Development portfolio worth $240 million.

After Designing the Project, I was entrusted to kick start the implementation. It entailed managing and monitoring the performance of the implementing partner, Chemonic International Inc. and to provide strategic and technical directions and necessary linkages with the stakeholders to ensure the delivery of results as per performance and quality standards. It also meant to review and approve the implementation plans, work plans, monitoring and evaluation plans, outreach and marking strategy and plan, and periodically evaluate the contractor's performance.

I was in charge of the policy and planning wing, under my leadership the authority produced Pakistan's first SME policy, paved way for separate regulations for the small and medium sized businesses and launched a portfolio of over USD 120 million worth of development projects.
