Core Research is Waters' internal advanced research group. I work in a small group aside other engineers and scientists developing new technologies that will enable future generation of analytical laboratory equipment. I leverage software such as SolidWorks and ANSYS to develop novel designs to solve increasingly challenging problems in creating equipment with better performance. My time is split between conceptualization and design on a PC and prototyping, assembly, and testing in a lab environment.

Design, develop, test, and optimize instrumentation for use in liquid chromatography systems. Support the products from concept through low volume manufacturing.

RainDance Technologies develops instrumentation for high throughput targeted DNA sequencing and analysis. Supported the development of a fully automated robotic sampling system utilizing microfluidics and "lab on a chip" technologies. Developed and fabricated a modular testing system that could test the system subassemblies to validate their function before they were installed. Determined and mitigate positional accuracy problems through tolerance analysis and functional testing.

Farm Design is an independent design and consulting firm specializing in medical products. Optimized and calidated the design and operation of a new surgical tool through extensive bench top testing and multi-dimensional analysis. Designed, sourced, and fabricated a breadboard prototype of a high temperature forced air system with accompanying test and control platform built in LabView. Determined and resolved high volume manufacturing concerns through tolerance analysis.

Draper Laboratories is a not for profile R&D lab with a specialty in inertial guidance systems. Assisted in the design, modelling, and drafting of a novel inertial guidance system. Determined root cause of failure for a complex mechanical accelerometer using ANSYS mechanical simulation. Designed a test platform for and characterized the response of a micro-mechanical flexure housed in an ultra high vacuum chamber.
