• Developed and optimized a novel microfluidic device to fully automate and scale up a surface functionalization procedure for assay cartridges used in a next-generation high-sensitivity immunodiagnostic platform• Demonstrated many benefits of the automated surface functionalization procedure over the traditional method including complete elimination of hands-on operator time, reduced reagent consumption, and potential for scale-up and efficiency improvement • Designed and implemented methods to eliminate the generation of disruptive bubbles in the microfluidic device

• Constructed a semi-automated MATLAB package to screen for coronary atherosclerosis through analysis of the adventitial tissue surrounding blood vessels • Processed and analyzed cardiac CT images of patients affected by atherosclerosis to determine possible early indicators of the disease including the density of calcified and adventitial tissue near blood vessels • Presented above work at UC San Diego's Bioengineering Day 2020

• Observed patient interaction, diagnosis, and surgical treatment of many cardiovascular pathologies and several forms of cancer • Wrote an NIH Small Business Innovation Research grant proposal to receive funding for the development of a medical device designed to treat arterial atherosclerosis and potential restenosis with minimal surgical intervention • Presented device design to UC San Diego endovascular surgeons and received feedback on how to improve it
