Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center exists to provide wraparound services for veterans, transitioning military members, and their families. Dedicated to easing the outcomes of decades of war and years of selfless service, Mt. Carmel provides assistance with job transition and employment, mental and physical health-care resources, food instability, affordable housing, veteran suicide prevention, and homelessness.Navigating services provided by state, local and federal governments, and a host of nonprofit agencies, can be challenging. That’s where Mt. Carmel comes in. Its model allows veterans to meet with partners for a variety of needs in a single, easily accessible location with a dedicated team that ensures every veteran, military service member, family member, first responder, and Gold Star family receives the support they deserve.In the future, Mt. Carmel seeks to help veterans who don’t live close to Colorado Springs. In partnership with the state of Colorado and UCHealth, the Next Chapter program opened in Pueblo this month. At Next Chapter, veteran leaders, healthcare professionals, and community partners join in a collaborative team initiative to deliver the best support for the variety of challenges Veterans and their families face as they write their next chapter.Additionally, Mt. Carmel recently opened the Colorado Veteran Business Outreach Center to help military members, veterans, and their family members throughout the state with their entrepreneurial pursuits.As more service members plan to make Colorado their home after their military service ends, Mt. Carmel and its partners will continue to support employment efforts and transition programs, as well as behavioral health needs and housing and food support.

Sal serves as Regional Operations Director for Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center, Southern Colorado. Sal served in the U.S. Army for over 32 years, and retired as Command Sergeant Major from Fort Carson in Colorado Springs. Sal served two combat tours to Baghdad, Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is a Purple Heart recipient, as well as a recipient of the Combat Action Badge and two Bronze Stars for his service in combat. He was also awarded the Legion of Merit for his 32-year career. Now, Sal finds himself responsible for the daily operations and strategic planning of providing best practices for military, veterans, and their families through access programs, integrated resources, and collaborated partnerships that empower lives and strengthen communities. Sal’s wife was born and raised in Pueblo, and her deep roots in the community brought them to Pueblo after Sal’s retirement. Now, Sal is proud to be a part of the Pueblo community and is honored to help drive the mission of Mt. Carmel through his deep network of partners and resources. By bringing his experience and passion for the veterans of Pueblo and Southern Colorado, Sal is a force of positive impact for the community.

Lead Laureate Vocational Saudi Arabia (LVSA) Department of Athletics, Recreation, and Wellness supporting a system of seven, separate, three-year vocational colleges located at various locations throughout Saudi Arabia. Five of the seven campuses were start-up operations, and two of them were all-women's colleges, among the first ever in the country. Was overall responsible for directing and managing all facets of the department; including strategic planning, budget management, internal and external relations, and student affairs; created departmental mission statement and core values. Developed and implemented long-range strategic and operational plan for intercollegiate, intramural, club, recreational, and physical education programming for the seven campus locations. Established an organizational framework for the department therein creating an environment to ensure the institution’s commitment to maintaining the highest level of excellence in the integration of academic and athletic experiences for students and student-athlete development. Initiated the criteria to hire and train staff and design programs that are right for seven individual campuses. Prepared a set of programs that included competitive teams, intramurals, and lifetime sports exposure that teach teamwork, character development, and dedication. Developed, implemented and sustained the first Health and Safety Handbook for the University.

Mentored and counsel an organization and sub-divisions with over 1,300 team members in varied occupations such as: logistics, combat arms, supply, support, administrative services, personnel (human resources) and safety. Successfully managed and sustained Team spanning over 50 diverse and complex career fields. Used sound tact and judgment to military personally assessing each individual concern. Served as Key Advisor during the successful turn-in and transfer of over $147M in equipment. Accurately accounted for physical inventory, balanced books and reported no loss of equipment. Integral in the development and execution of mandatory training for 2,500 team members in combat tasks, mandatory training and weapons qualification prior to an overseas deployment with zero safety incidents. Formulated, implemented and monitored action plans to resolve problems. Utilized extensive knowledge and experience, independently and with a team, to resolve problems, interpret military regulations, directives, governing policy and procedures. Efficiently researched and analyzed findings; delivered detailed summaries and briefings on logistics, operations and organizational mission-related issues to senior leadership. Developed and an efficient training program that refocused and trained 400 assistance managers with a concentrated emphasis on standards, discipline, training and values.
