Various Galleries

I have delivered art workshops for various organisations including Fabrica in Brighton and Towner in Eastbourne.The most impactful project was for Towner. It was a community project, designed to engage with people who do not usual visit galleries. We invited people to take part in workshops in a Marquee on their local rec. I worked alongside fellow artist Sheila Hay to develop a range of techniques that would appeal to people of all ages and of all abilities. We then took all the work that was made and incorporated it into an installation at Towner. The installation was in the gallery for a week and that weekend, Towner had over 800 extra visitors. As part of the Towner project, we were invited to deliver art sessions to a local primary school and to develop an exhibition in the school.We also developed a workshop for primary school teachers. We showed them the range of techniques we had used on the project and gave them a way of contextualising the work, so that they can introduce their students to the work of contemporary installation artists. We expanded the project further to suggest ways in which the objects made can become starting points for drawing and painting.

I work part time in the Philanthropy and Alumni Engagements office, organising events for alumni such as reunions and awards ceremonies, as well as events to raise the profile of the university such as our recent Great Debate. I also carry out general administration tasks such as maintaining the database and responding to enquiries from our alumni.

I held two positions at the school. My main responsibilities as Art Technician were developing and demonstrating activities and techniques for lessons, devising worksheets and creating learning resources. It was my responsibility to ensure that the department was suitably equippedfor each lesson and I managed a budget, ordering materials and equipment where necessary. As Publicity Coordinator, I liaised with local media and wrote press releases to publicise the school. I designed and wrote publicity materials, edited the school newspaper and photographed school activities.

I was head of the features department on a daily newspaper, managing a team of writers, sub-editors and production staff. Designing, editing and preparing arts and entertainment pages for production using desktop publishing. Overseeing the flow of copy, editing text, writing headlines and proofreading. Ensuring that as a department we met all our deadlines and produced well-designed, high quality content.
