In my nine years' experience as a Children's Librarian, I have been responsible for overseeing all services for children ages 0-14, including reference, readers’ advisory, hosting class visits, planning programming, working with community partners, and overseeing staff who work on projects relating to these aspects. This includes: Working with school principals and teachers to foster strong relationship with local school community. Hosting approximately ten class visits per week from the two adjoining schools, including planning library lessons to foster of love of learning and reading and to familiarize students with all the library has to offer. Ordering materials in English and Spanish and ensure the children’s collection meets the needs of the community’s children, families, educators, and other members of the general public, adhering to budget assigned. Planning programming to appeal to children and families, including weekly storytimes and craft programs, as well as an eventful Summer Reading program that features weekly performances. Building relationships with members of the community including families, students, teachers, community partners, and other library patrons. I am currently working as a part-time Generalist, where I continue to work closely with Children’s Services as well as work in Adult Services and act as Branch Manager one day a week.
