Words and nature. Two of the biggest passions in my life for as long as I can remember. I was around 10 when I discovered I was actually quite handy with words, winning the school prize (a hedgehog trophy!) for creative writing and later becoming the editor of multiple school magazines. Equally, courtesy of Sir David Attenborough, my fascination with the natural world started at an early age. By the time I reached sixth form, saddened by the news headlines of the day — acid rain, global warming, the hole in the ozone layer — I became actively involved in nature conservation. Getting hands-on and clocking up 100s of hours on voluntary tasks around the UK and beyond, I found it immensely satisfying to contribute, in some small way, to the protection of our amazing planet. I went on to study Environmental Science at university, however, through all the assignments, presentations, and collaborations, it became clear I had a creative side to unleash. And so, my career progressed into marketing — where I’ve thrived for over 20 years. As a rip-roaring introvert, I love the creative process, because when I struggle to express myself verbally, my world becomes alive and free-flowing through narrative and design. I also enjoy the fast pace of B2B communications. Satisfying my natural curiosity, there are always new tactics and strategies to explore to raise brand awareness, share industry insights, and support business success. Always mindful of businesses’ impact on the wider world, one of my career highlights has been helping to establish the Bistech Community Fund. Since its 2017 launch, we’ve donated around £250k to over 80 charities. It’s been amazing to see so many of our people get involved in all manner of events to support the causes close to their hearts. More recently, I’ve returned to my environmental roots alongside the marketing career I love. Perfectly aligned with my core values of nature, creativity, and learning (and underpinned by kindness and truth — it’s tricky to choose just three!), my work as Sustainability Lead enables me to channel these lifelong passions. Today, actively participating in the global sustainability community, it’s both a pleasure and a privilege to realise positive change.Working in the ever-changing world of tech while driving Bistech’s communications and sustainability strategies is both challenging and immensely satisfying. Having recently celebrated my ten-year workiversary, I’m very much looking forward to the next ten!
