Responsible for education programmes which build young peoples’ resilience to identified crises, such as first aid emergencies caused by drug and alcohol misuse, or stigma related to refugee and migration issues. Motivated and led staff and volunteer team through a period of significant change whilst driving a results-focused approach.

Led on all aspects of the organisations youth education and engagement work within the Region. Managed staff and volunteer team to deliver youth education programmes using a range of approaches such as direct delivery, peer education, and teacher training. Provided assurance and support to British Red Cross services to ensure best practice in our work with young people. Safeguarding lead for the Region, ensuring compliance with safeguarding policy and processes and providing support and advice on safeguarding issues. Increasing participation and young volunteer voice across the organisation and supporting opportunities for the development of young volunteers.

Scotland, Northern Ireland & Isle Of Man

Led the development and coordination of Humanitarian Education training programmes in Scotland and Northern Ireland reaching over 3500 teachers, trainee teachers and young people on an annual basis. This included provision of a GTCS accredited CPD course for existing teachers, and providing lecturing inputs into teacher trainer courses in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Responsible for: strategic direction; managing staff team; annual planning, evaluation and monitoring; securing funding via bids; designing and delivering course material; mentoring on accredited courses; and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders and external partners. Acted as an executive committee member for the International Development Education Association Scotland (IDEAS) and as board member for the Global Learning Programme Scotland.

Dhaka, Bangladesh & Edinburgh, Uk

Delivered a peer education project mitigating the humanitarian impact of severe cyclones on vulnerable coastal communities in Bangladesh working in close partnership with the Bangladesh Red Crescent. The project increased local capacity to engage young people in risk education and resilience activities, empowering young people as messengers amongst their peers, and reaching 4800 young people with disaster preparedness messages.

Established successful teacher training programmes which supported teachers across Scotland to integrate global citizenship education into the curriculum. The primary focus was the design and delivery of training programmes which increased teachers’ confidence and capability to engage young people with a range of humanitarian issues such as conflict, disasters and emergencies, and refugees and migration.
