Brought in to assist the studio as they get up and running on Gerber 2D and upskilling their manual pattern cutter. Role included 1:1 tuition in Gerber, building practice exercises, reviewing new & production patterns, compiling a Gerber learning resource manual, building MCT charts and a block library. I also pattern cut for some special Pangaia Lab projects during my time there.

Developing first patterns, 1st & 2nd fit alterations and sealing for the show ranges and commercial sales pieces. Working closely with design and development teams to ensure all aspects of each garment are well considered. Most pieces are developed from a sketch or vintage garment and can undergo quite drastic design changes during the fitting process. Using Techpacker online software the spec books are in depth and up to date. A large portion of samples are created in-house so a handover is done in person with a machinist.

First patterns & development alterations for high street womenswear in a fast paced environment. Working closely with design and sales team to ensure the clients design and cost requirements were met. I primarily worked on soft separates and completed 2-4 new patterns daily. Garments were mostly developed from sketches, occasionally a reference garment or photograph. I worked to improve costings for materials and manufacturing and worked closely with machinists. Detailed CMT spec sheets with make notes and measurements for in-house and factory teams. Brands included Designers at Debenhams, Wallis & Evans. We aimed for a 5 week turnaround on all styles including smart and dressy soft separates in lace, silks & chiffons.

Worked collaboratively with two senior designers to develop 1st & 2nd patterns in a fast paced environment, working efficiently to meet short lead times. Product range was primarily smart and casual separates, occasion wear, workwear and some outerwear in woven and stretch fabrics. We created ranges to appeal to the existing client base as well as potential new customers, and developed blocks to meet new requirements. Spec sheets with detailed measurements and construction information.I oversaw sampling with machinists in-house and abroad as Gerber files were sent between the London studio and our factories.

I assisted two women’s wear designers by creating variations on design ideas and finalising trim decisions for outerwear and tailored garments. Duties also included sourcing raw materials from suppliers and requesting custom made materials. The success of this role depended on excellent communication with our London and Turkish locations.
