Managed and edited features and supplements at Rochester Business Journal, the leading business news source in the Rochester MSA (population 1.1 million). Won writing awards for a series on hydrofracking.- Explore Greater Rochester, region’s official visitors guide distributed and promoted by Visit Rochester. Circulation 150K, four-color glossy, 96 pages. I developed story concepts that shine a light on what makes Rochester unique. I wrote features, assigned and edited stories by freelancers, assigned and selected photos, and collaborated with designers to develop graphics and other visual ways to tell a story. It was a fast-paced, deadline-driven team effort created with a healthy dose of humor.- Digital newsletters - Wrote and edited daily and weekly email newsletters sent to nearly 20,000 subscribers.- Supplemental sections - Lead editor: Conceived/assigned/edited stories by staff reporters and freelance writers, and managed photo assignments. Topics included Rochester Business Hall of Fame, schools rankings, corporate wellness, best company websites, health care.- Explore - Managed and wrote weekly lifestyle section.- Fast Start - Edited personal profiles on region’s young professionals.- Lead editor on special sections for corporate anniversaries and other milestones.- Real - Launched and conceived content for popular annual magazine introducing area’s 80,000 college students to Rochester (2005-2009). - Time Out - Conceptualized, wrote and edited eight-page monthly lifestyle section featuring arts, entertainment, travel, food, people and local color.

I was the sole writer and editor in the Global Crossing IT division. Managed technical communications from IT SMEs to company employees in multiple locations around the country. Led internal communications on technology upgrades and process changes - these increased engagement and excitement among initially resistant adopters. Interviewed IT subject matter experts and translated 'geek speak' into jargon-free content for a general audience. Provided writing and editing on a team that taught company employees how to use a new intranet and other tech tools very different from what they were used to.

Interviewed faculty on research, writing and teaching projects. Pitched and placed stories in Los Angeles Times, New York Times and other media outlets. Academic areas included political science, economics, history and linguistics.Wrote feature articles on alumni, faculty, students and campus life for university's alumni magazine. Edited and wrote articles in the newsletter and email for university employees, circulation 11,000. Part of a team that redesigned the print newsletter and launched the first email version.
