After graduating with a Bachelors of Commerce degree I spent a few years travelling and working throughout Europe, Asia and Africa as an Accountant. After cycling from London to Cape Town in order to raise funds for Survival International, I was nominated as Outhere Magazine "Adventurer of the year" finalist in 2001 . Returning home to Cape Town I decided to pursue a career in tourism and thus founded AWOL in 2002. I has extensive experience working as a qualified Nature Tour Guide and now, after guiding many Special Interest trips, I now spend most of my time making use of my extensive travel knowledge to design perfect travel packages for guests to South Africa. In 2006,in my capacity as owner and Director of both AWOL and BEN, we won the First Choice Responsible Tourism Award for the category “Best for Innovation and Technology” at the World Travel Centre in London. In 2008, the AWOL Bicycle Township tours received Fair Trade and Tourism status and continued to expand and improve the community aspect of the tour and strive to create sustainable livelihoods for the people in Masiphumelele.AWOL Tours was also a finalist for the 2008 Imvelo Responsible Tourism Awards in the category Best practice - economic impact. In 2009, as the Director of AWOL Tours I was a finalist in the City of Cape Town ‘Women in Tourism’ Awards.
