As the Founding Director of AWOL Tours, I have successfully established and grown a responsible tourism business that has gained international recognition. With a dedicated team of ten full-time staff and partnerships with freelance individuals and small businesses, we have created economic opportunities within the industry.My responsibilities encompass various aspects of the business, including the development of tour itineraries and products for international clients. I have implemented accounting procedures, handled HR administration, recruited, and managed tour guides and office staff, and devised effective marketing and sales strategies. Additionally, I have overseen all operational activities and personally led tours.With 20 years of experience in the tourism industry, AWOL Tours has a proven track record of designing and implementing outdoor guided tour itineraries for international visitors. Notably, our AWOL Bicycle Township tours were recognized with Fair Trade and Tourism status in 2008, and we remain committed to enhancing the community aspect of the tour and creating sustainable livelihoods in Masiphumelele.AWOL Tours has also achieved recognition for responsible tourism practices, having been named a finalist for the 2008 and 2011 Imvelo Responsible Tourism Awards in the Best practice - economic impact category.
