I create video because I love visual storytelling and communicating ideas clearly, I paint Dynamic Symbolism paintings because I am compelled to explore new imagery ideas - it’s a calling, and I teach because when I connect on that creative level with young people there is nothing more fun. Art can be a beautiful, safe place to explore differences in viewpoints and expand our cultural understanding. I explore the boundaries between physical and digital art. My short-form experimental video art connects my paintings with the natural world. I experiment with imagery using nested sequences, opacity blending modes and Luma Keys in Premiere Pro combined with masks created in Illustrator from sections of my artwork to create multi-layered video montages. I enjoy working with talented local musicians to create these sensual feasts. My education is international and deeply culturally diverse, and informs my Art. Viewers often see symbols in my abstract paintings and video art. In my experience, people describe in abstract art what they are familiar with experientially or culturally: an admission that we actually, physically see differently. Where a student of Tibetan religious history saw cave paintings, a man from Trinidad saw Carnival masks, a dancer saw choreography and a pagan saw the Goddess dancing. Where an Indian woman saw an elephant's head, a cancer survivor saw crab claws. I paint in Jungian archetype, drawn from the collective unconscious. My lifework is to find how. In conversation with art enthusiasts, I have found the need to record and share what people see in my paintings.
