After graduating with a BBA in Accounting, I recently began my career as a staff accountant. While I am light on accounting work experience, I’d like to share a few points from my background that I believe will help me to be successful in a staff accounting role:Inventory ManagementIn my positions at Fort Worth Cycling and Luke’s Locker I was responsible for inventory management and analysis. I used the inventory computer system to compare previous inventory and sales levels and plan the purchase of new inventory based on my knowledge of the market, its seasonal nature and our unique store. I was also responsible for technical knowledge of new products as they were released from vendors, ensuring that my staff knew this information and could communicate to customers how these new features would help them.Project ManagementAs Program Director at Luke’s Locker, I coordinated schedules and merchandise distribution for approximately 130 program participants and 25 group coaches. Most importantly, I acted as a liaison between the runners and the in-store staff, to help them identify which staff members could best assist in finding the right product to meet their fitness needs. Goal AchievementWhen I decide that I want to accomplish a new goal, I create a plan and spend the time doing the work necessary. It took me two years to earn my first state championship in cycling. When it is raining and cold, I am still out training and putting in the necessary work. I also decided to go back to school as an adult and completed my Bachelor’s degree while working approximately twenty hours a week.
