At Minot State I have been learning all the different aspects of business through my college of business generals. I have found management information systems to be the degree for me. I enjoy the technical side of business and want to graduate with the skills to communicate and understand how business and technology work together. To gain more technical skills I have joined S.W.I.F.T (Students With Interests in Future Technologies). In the club I have interacted with other technically interested people, lead and collaborated club projects, planned and hosted events such as NoDAKoN, and competed in national cyber security competitions. In addition to majoring in management information systems I also plan on earning certificates in leadership and cyber defense. Cyber security is what I find the most interesting in the MIS program. I enjoy learning the various concepts. I like to learn these concepts and relate them to how the world works. Labs have also helped me in my studies to gain new understandings of technology and help my classmates and I compete in cyber security competitions. For leadership I was nominated and accepted for the Roger Looyenga scholarship. I was a part of a small group that would be taught and discuss various leadership aspects, qualities, situations and more while working on a group project at the same time. My team's goal was to create a volunteer center that would connect Minot State students to the community. We did this because there are courses at Minot State that require volunteer work. This volunteer center would help them. It would also be there for any students interested in helping the community or getting closer with an employer. My group achieved this by asking the help of Minot State's webmaster and graphic designer to help us make a webpage. The webpage is on Minot State's official website that you can still view today by searching “Looyenga volunteer center”.Since then I have been welcomed back to the Looyenga leadership program twice for the past two years as a student mentor. This is where I guide a group of students in there leadership paths. Everything to do with guidance for there project, coordination, connecting them with others for there project, and teaching the concepts I once learned.
