As Medical Science Liasion at GreenLight Clinical, my role has a heavy focus in working with emerging pharma and biotech throughout the Asia-Pacific, with the aim of taking products from bench to bedside - through non-clinical development and into first-in-man trials and beyond. Having worked on both the academic and commercial sides of research, I provide a unique perspective on the pathways offered to companies in a critical phase of product development, helping businesses find the best locales and investigators to get their product to market safely and efficiently.

Retinal & Developmental Neurobiology Laboratory, The University Of Sydney

Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) is a major cause of visual impairment worldwide, resulting from high levels of inspired O2 used to compensate for lung underdevelopment in premature infants. The initiating event in ROP is delayed retinal vascularization - an adverse effect of high O2 levels in the retina due to O2 supplementation therapy. As photoreceptors are depolarized and consume more O2 in the dark, we hypothesize that this side-effect of O2 supplementation can be mitigated by keeping neonates in total darkness. We propose that dark rearing (DR) creates a ‘metabolic sump’ that depletes O2 in the retina and consequently maintains normal retinal vascularisation during O2 supplementation.The work undertaken in my PhD thesis aims to test this hypothesis, and ultimately, we intend our findings will have immediate translational outcomes for clinical management of ROP and benefit an entire population of premature infants.

Provided support to the laboratory head in the long term administration of lab projects with national and international funding bodies. Another major component of the position was the identification, preparation, submission and reporting of Category 1 Research Grants, and then management of philanthropic donations to the laboratory.

Working directly under the ERA Project Manager, I was tasked with providing assistance in the collection and management of data for the Australian Government's ERA Initiative at the University of Newcastle. Working across numerous University systems, I provided direct support in the upload of data to the Australian Research Council for ERA. In conjunction with this role, I was also tasked with the communication and dissemination of ERA information to the wider research community at the University

As Web Officer for Research Services, I was directly responsible for the content and maintenance of approximately 20 websites relating to Priority Research Centres and other research centres and institutes at the University of Newcastle. Operating in the Interwoven Livesite Content Management System, I was tasked with collecting, producing and publishing the information contained on these sites to the web, while maintaining a high degree of client involvement while adhering to the University’s brand strategy. As an Administration Officer in Human Ethics, I was responsible for formatting and distributing the minutes of Human Ethics Committee meetings, making changes to approved Ethics protocols and general file and data management in the Human Ethics team at the University of Newcastle.

The project which I was assigned to, the Timor-Leste Demographic and Health survey produced a 480 page bound report for the East Timorese government. I was heavily involved in all aspects of the report, from lead-in work to editing, formatting, graphic design, publication, creation of an electronic version of the survey, distribution and follow up work.
