About Sam Adeoti

Samuel Adeoti is a compassionate entrepreneur, philanthropist, and mathematician whose unwavering dedication to giving back has earned him a reputation as a community leader globally. Since the brink of his career, he has been avidly involved in an array of charity ventures. However, his passion for helping others stemmed from the poor living conditions he endured as a child, walking over four kilometres each day to gather safe drinking water. His first-hand experiences enable him not only to deeply empathise but also motivate him to work towards transforming the lives of individuals who are affected by the harsh realities of water poverty. As the CEO of Fairaction International, an Australian water charity, Samuel is dedicated to finding sustainable solutions to the high failure rate of water infrastructure in developing countries and contributing to the achievement of SDG 6.1. He concurrently serves as a Transdisciplinary PhD researcher at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), where he expertly combines his deep knowledge in Mathematics, Industrial Mathematics, and Mathematical & Statistical Modelling with advanced studies in Civil and Environmental Engineering. His research is pivotal in shaping the sustainable, data-driven water infrastructure solutions implemented by Fairaction. These initiatives not only bring sustainable water access to communities but also serve as pilot projects that refine and develop more advanced solutions. This approach ensures that all projects are responsive to dynamic real-world challenges, including climate and economic changes, and contribute significantly to the broader body of knowledge in water sustainability.Learn more about Sam on the Fairaction history page at https://fairaction.ngo/about/our-history.

The relevance of Target 6.1 cannot be over- emphasised as water plays a significant role in every aspect of sustainable development. Failure to achieve access to clean drinking water for all will seriously undermine the UN’s other SDGs.FAIRACTION has spent more than 5 years working in collaboration with other charities, government departments, NGOs, and professional organisations to develop a holistic solution to the water availability issues in Nigeria. Findings from our research to date strongly point to the need to target the technical, social, financial, institutional, and environmental factors affecting Nigeria’s water infrastructure in order to find a sustainable solution of improving the availability of clean drinking water and ultimately the achievement of SDG 6.1 in Nigeria and elsewhere in the world. Our work to date has revealed that a holistic approach must start by mapping and evaluating the water sources of vulnerable communities in a selected area (typically a region or state). The collected data can then be analysed to create a priority for where intervention strategies should be implemented. Prioritised intervention then enables us to create a program of constructing what we have termed as Smart Water Kiosks (SWK), manned to distribute, and sell drinking water at affordable prices. Each SWK uses a smart Internet of Things (IoT) technology to collect, and report live data. This technology is integrated with algorithmic software (AI), to analyse data from other SWKs and ongoing field research to predict the locations of where future SWKs should be installed to achieve enhanced viability and improved access to clean drinking water.
