I lead the team supporting the Master of the Rolls in delivering his responsibiliies as head of Civil Justice in England and Wales. As Secretary to the Civil Justice Council I provide direction and support to the Council and its members.

I led the team responsible for the development of policy on a range of EU exit issues of a high importance to the judiciary, whilst overseeing the ongoing relationship with the judiciary within that context As the UK's departure from the European Union has significant consequences for the administration of justice. I held responsibility for ensuring that the judiciary were appropriately engaged, and that the Lord Chancellor’s statutory and constitutional functions were properly exercised and reflected in the development of EU exit policy across Whitehall.

Responsible for the development of policy on a range of complex issues. I offer particular support to the Lord Chancellor in his constitutional responsibilities for the rule of law and judicial independence. Supporting the executive in their relationship with the judiciary and sponsoring the judicial arm’s length bodies; Judicial Office, Judicial Appointments Commission and the Judicial Appointments and Complaints Ombudsman. I have responsibility for the Human Resources group of the Unified Patent Court Taskforce.

I Represented the Secretary of State before the Upper Tribunal Immigration and Asylum Chamber (IAC) presenting a full range of cases. I reviewed and drafted challenge to adverse determinations, advising on further litigation and litigation strategy. I led several high-profile cases; acting for the State in reported hearings covering; the relevant date of application for entry clearance cases, Human Rights in deportation appeals, the principle of rehabilitation, EU marriage law, and the risks faced by Christians in China. I worked closely with Policing and Enforcement Colleagues on Operation NEXUS.
