A budding Hong Kong-born saxophonist, Sam Au-Yeung is a second-year master's student in Saxophone Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music in New York, under Prof. Chien-Kwan Lin. He graduated with First Class honors from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he studied saxophone with Dr. Wong Tak Chiu and Jacky Leung, and conducting with Victor Tam. He also completed an exchange at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro under Dr. Steven Stusek.Sam has won numerous accolades, including The D.H. Chen Foundation Scholarship and the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme (HKSES). He has also earned awards in various international competitions across North America, Europe, and Hong Kong. Recently, his quartet at Eastman won Second Prize in the 2024 North American Saxophone Alliance Collegiate Quartet Competition.An experienced ensemble player, Sam has performed at events like the Carolina Band Festival and the Hong Kong International Saxophone Symposium. As a soloist, he performed Glazunov's Saxophone Concerto with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in 2019.Sam is committed to volunteering, having taught music to underprivileged children in Hong Kong and Myanmar. He is active in his church communities in Hong Kong and New York, serving as a saxophonist and chorister. Sam is currently a member of the Eastman Saxophone Project and Eastman Wind Ensemble, and co-founder of the Cypher Quartet. He also served as conductor of the CUHK Student Orchestra during his undergraduate studies.
