Involved in technical aspects of Solution Mining for Allana Potash's Dallol Project. The trial Solution Mining operation was part of a feasibility study aimed at proving the production of 1Mt standard K60 product/yr via the dissolution and solar evaporation of Sylvinite/Carnallite. Interpretation of geophysical logs and geology as well as applying drilling techniques were fundamental to constructing a fully operational well. Coupled with this is the understanding of the main processes involved with Solution Mining to be able to operate the system and to maximise recovery and efficiency. Getting the test work right is a major part of proving the feasibility of the project, and as a result was one of the most important technical jobs on the project at the time.

Danakil Depression, Ethiopia

Project Geologist on a world class potash project in the hottest place on Earth. Responsible for supervising and conducting the technical operations in the field; collating results, managing databases, liasing with, and training local geologists, supervising a highly challenging 12,500m drilling contract, managing a geological team composed of expatriate and local staff, overseeing local and expatriate contractors performing water drilling and seismic surveys whilst maintaining daily contact with upper management and board members to report daily ground operations.

Ipswich, United Kingdom

Based in Ipswich in the Eastern UK, I was responsible for the design, and installation of dewatering based systems for construction sites and domestic use. This included the design and installation of water wells, vacuum pump systems, and general surface water control. Part of my job was also as a site manager to ensure the job was carried out successfully, to do this I was educated in site safety, company liaison, and community relations to EU standards; CSCS and EU skills.

Tulu Kapi, Ethiopia

In my second of undergraduate studies, I completed an 8 week placement with Minerva Resources Ltd. (Now purchased by Nyota Minerals) in Ethiopia, where I took part in exploration with respect to gold. At the end of the placement I produced a report based on Minerva’s and my own findings in the field as to the nature of mineralisation and recommendations for future work. The work undertaken included surface sampling, mapping and core logging.
