Since 1996, ICL has been conducting a range of social and economic development assignments in Malawi and across the Southern African region, with a particular emphasis on the development of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) and research systems. During my time with ICL I gained an incredible insight into the operations of economic development consultancies and was able to develop a range of key skills. As an intern, I supported ICL’s consulting team on the implementation of a nationwide financial inclusion survey, analytical report writing, project proposal writing, and research assignments for a range of clients including the World Bank, the Malawi Reserve Bank, the Malawi Ministry of Finance, and UNDP. I was also able to observe the implementation of EU-UNDP’s ‘Zantchito-Skills for Jobs’ program which aims to generate job creation and entrepreneurship across Malawi through the advancement of business development services and entrepreneurial training.
