I was a freelance in the publishing division where I worked across a number of in-house titles. I managed the production process by circulating proofs to be checked by editorial and art departments, communicated art changes and sent files to the repro house, ensured print orders were in place and negotiated print extensions where necessary.

• Cross communicated with advertisers, sales teams and colleagues in order to create striking adverts using InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.

• Sent out print orders to and checked paper stocks with the contracted printer, Wyndeham.
• Visited printers to check the quality of print was to the standard that was expected.

Howden, East Yorkshire

• I created sports pages and graphics, to deadline, for the Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph and many other national and local newspapers.
• All deadlines were daily so you had to have the ability to prioritise, cope with pressure and work shifts.
• Produced bespoke products using journalist’s copy and images, sourcing images from clients, photo agencies and our photographic libraries.
• Responsible for proofing all of my work and wrote articles, headlines and captions when asked to by clients.
• Pages were produced using InDesign, Photoshop and XML files that were tidied on the page.
• Sharpened and brightened images to make them suitable for print.

Hammersmith, London

• Published industry specific directories, working as part of a team to ensure that over 30 titles were published to deadline.
• Put together listings and advertising pages using Quark Xpress and Photoshop, on both Windows and Mac operated computer systems.
• Proof read directory pages and listings to ensure there were no errors.
• Ensured both text and images used were accurate and were signed off by the client. This included subbing copy, editing images and consulting the clients about changes.
• Sent pages to relevant departments, liaised with sales and editorial managers to ensure house style was adhered to. Pages were approved and sent to the printers using VIP software.
• Uploaded text and visual content to directory websites using Atlas Ad Manager and the in house database system.

Canary Wharf, London

• Worked for one month on the newspaper’s sports desk.
• Wrote over 500 words a day, to create the ‘Today in the Premiership Page.’
• Achieved five by-lines (published work) whilst working at the paper.

• Sourced and created news stories from news wires, the internet or press officers.
• Carried out general research for journalists.
