I am currently working as a Detective Sergeant at Heddlu Gwent Police, attached to the Public Protection Unit. I am a qualified PIP2 Investigator, working in investigations of all forms of child abuse, modern day slavery, 'honour' based abuse and abuse of Vulnerable Adults. This role necessitates significant multi-agency working to ensure safeguarding is present for the high risk nature of these investigations.Prior to this, I worked in the Reactive Criminal Investigation Department. In this role I progressed a variety of Serious and Complex criminal investigations, including residential burglary, robbery, serious violence, rape and other serious sexual offences. This role required delivery of time critical case work to enable charging decisions to be made in support of detaining suspects in custody for trial.My skillset includes:1. Strong legal and policy knowledge in the policing sector to enable justifiable decision making in complex scenarios.2. The ability to manage high risk incidents in the short, medium and long term.3. Presentation of complex information in reports for review by a breadth of audiences, from criminal justice professionals to laypeople.4. The ability to communicate with people from a variety of backgrounds, including children and people with additional learning needs that impact their communication.5. A probing mind that does not accept an answer at face value, pushing for proof and challenging processes that are found to be ineffective.6. The ability to manage and progress multiple concurrent projects, each of which has justification for being a high priority case. This includes justifiably deciding which cases require prioritisation based on risk, impact on evidential material and external factors such as court dates.
