I was the voyage planning officer and bridge manager. As voyage planning officer I was responsible for communicating with port agents for information like berth assignments and ETA's. I also planned the routes following the ship's busy itineraries on the ship's NACOS ECDIS, I was also in charge of keeping the bridge navigational equipment and publications updated, organising shore side services when necessary.As the bridge manager I scheduled the working hours of all bridge team members and organised any meetings or trainings the bridge team required. I also kept a watch. I was a senior watch keeper working together with a junior officer and a lookout. I have 6 years of experience as a senior watch keeper and have experience across most of the world's oceans. I have regularly been in charge of maintaining and testing all of the lifesaving and fire fighting equipment onboard.I was the coxwain of the man overboard rescue team, leading a small team of 3 crew in the event of a man overboard, this together with many years of organising and conducting water sports events has lead to me being a very confident ship handler of small vessels like zodiacs and rescue boats. While I am confident with smaller vessels, a bigger attribute is my ship handling skills of larger vessels. I have manoeuvred cruise ships countless times using both conventional rudders and azipod systems.

Here I gained alot of experience of extensively maintaining the ship's safety equipment. This was a very hands on job but I am thankful for gaining the background knowledge of how ships systems operate.

I was a deck cadet at Warsash Maritime Academy and doing my sea time on Africa Express Line reefer vessels trading in the Mediterranean and the west coast of Africa.
