At Fieldmaster it was our family owned business.I came into it from School to help my dad as he was going through a sickness. I was 17 and a half at the time and was thrown into trying to manage and look after the business. There was support of other staff obviously. I started in the Parts Department and workshop in April/May 2008 to make sure I had: and worked through that to being in charge of all International and National purchasing by the start of 2009.I was then in charge of Operations and Purchasing. This required me to look over Despatch of whole goods and Parts as well as managing the output of a Powder coating plant onsite and the manufacturing plant producing the finished units. We had 13 staff in total not including myself and of them 8 were under myself. I created a real team atmosphere and worked well with the people I had, I have a real thing about keeping people in their job because they WANT to be there not making it a drag to be at work. I made I fun buy creating targets and KPI’s for the staff to meet. If they met these I would do bonuses like a staff BBQ or a small cash bonus. You never can put a price on how much that means to staff. In my Purchasing role we had to look over purchasing from:- USA- China- India- Europe- AustraliaLocal Purchasing was done all across the Country. With Production Planning we used a planner to log all jobs that needed to go through the workshop which was checked over and given an estimated time of despatch so the sales people were always informed of when their sold item was going to be ready. Stock items of course were despatched immediately.I was involved in very very heavy long hours of work sometimes not even stopping for the night. I am really passionate about my job.
